What is Autodesk AutoCAD?

Autodesk AutoCAD equips architects, engineers, and construction professionals with precision tools to:

  • Design and annotate 2D geometry and 3D models with solids, surfaces, and mesh objects

  • Automate drafting tasks to place objects with AI, compare drawings, create schedules, publish layouts, and more

  • Maximize productivity with customized workspaces, AutoLISP, APIs, and apps

What is AutoCAD used for?

AutoCAD is computer-aided design (CAD) software that is used for precise 2D and 3D drafting, design, and modeling with solids, surfaces, mesh objects, documentation features, and more. It includes features to automate tasks and increase productivity such as comparing drawings, counting, adding objects, and creating tables. It also comes with seven industry-specific toolsets for electrical design, plant design, architecture layout drawings, mechanical design, 3D mapping, adding scanned images, and converting raster images. AutoCAD enables users to create, edit, and annotate drawings via desktop, web, and mobile devices.

Who uses Autodesk AutoCAD?

Autodesk AutoCAD is used by students, architects, designers, engineers, project managers, real estate developers, and construction professionals to create precise 2D and 3D drawings.

AutoCAD Essentials Training enables students to create a basic 2D drawing in the AutoCAD software. Even at this fundamental level, the AutoCAD software is one of the most sophisticated computer applications that you are likely to encounter. Therefore learning to use it can be challenging.

This training covers the essential core topics for working with the AutoCAD software. The teaching strategy is to start with a few basic tools that enable the student to create and edit a simple drawing, and then continue to develop those tools. More advanced tools are also introduced throughout the training.

  • Understanding the AutoCAD workspace and user interface.
  • Using basic drawing, editing, and viewing tools.
  • Organizing drawing objects on layers.
  • Inserting reusable symbols (blocks).
  • Preparing a layout to be plotted.
  • Adding text, hatching, and dimensions.

By the end of the course, participants should be able to:

      • Drawing a 2D layout with Basic Drawing Tool
      • Manage User Coordinate System
      • Managing a drawing with Layers
      • Annotate drawings and plotting

Using 3Dimensional objects helps you communicate your ideas to those who may not be familiar with the plans, sections and side views of your design. This 2 days course provides a through grounding in 3D fundamentals, teaching how to produce 3D drawings and models in AutoCAD. Participant will learn how to create a series of simple models by combining solid primitives such as boxes, wedges and cylinders with the union command. Students will learn to control user coordinate system and use the subtract and intersect command to create increasingly complex primitive models before progressing with extrusions, resolves, sweeps and loft objects.
